Description:

Our research focuses on global and international history in the 20th century. We are interested in processes of globalization, regionalism and fragmentation as well as in the international system and foreign relations. Methodologically, we are dedicated to a broadly conceived political history which is actively aware of social, economic and cultural history as well as the history of ideas. Regional specializations are on Japan, India, Israel, and Southeast Asia as well as on the United States.

Cold War Interests:

Two research projects, funded by the German Science Foundation and the Volkswagen Foundation, investigate the history of urban and rural development policies after 1945. The cold war does not play an explicit role but is obviously present as a characteristic of the period under investigation.
